I am looking into airbrushing as an alternative to brush painting. I paint models such automobiles, planes, and figures. I am getting a little tired of painting bigger pieces that are only one color for an hour only to go back over it. Oh the models I paint are medium sized, like 3ft by 3ft with an average of 500 or more parts. I use enamel paints like testors brand. The very fine details I can do with a brush but an airbrush looks so much better. I did a little bit of airbrushing in a high school art class 3 years ago but I don’t remember much about it. I will more than likely get absorbed into airbrushing and not be able to stop, that’s why I would like a good beginner brush that is flexible to do other smaller size works. Well I won’t be painting cars or shirts so a brush for models would be nice. I would like to hear any suggestions for an airbrush for that style of work. I am open to any suggestions and can’t wait to hear from anyone.

really depends on what you are wanting to spent and the frequency of you painting. you can get a really nice high quality airbrush for around $100, iwata or an richpen apollo..be sure whatever you get, make sure it is double action and not single. people tend to make the mistake of going single action and it really limits your ability and speed to paint.

Thanks for the quick reply. I hope to use it about 10 hrs a week and can spend to 200. I would be gratful if you could explain the double action to single action. I have heard of them but I trust someone who has used them so Ill take your word. Thanks a lot for the help!

single action you press down and you have to manually adjust the nozzle at the end to change your paint spray pattern. double action you press down for air, and pull back for paint, further you pull back the more paint that comes out. double action offers supurb control over your airbrushing. Id start off with a basic iwata hp sbs or a richpen.
